All war is based on deception

"Make your enemies think you are weak when you are strong,
and make them think you are strong when you are weak"

--Sun Tzu, The Art of War

A lot of our rivals are expecting this to be as bad a season as we've had for 40+ years.Ex OSU QB-turned-ESPN analyist, Kirk Herbstreit is worried about our new coach's fragile psyche:

But I’m a little concerned right now for Rich. There’s a lot of negative things adding up. They need to start the season and win some games to get some positive stuff going, some mojo going, because it’s not good right now.

Sports Illustrated predicts a spartan-like season, pegging us at #54 preseason.

Penn State's college newspaper The Daily Collegian isn't expecting much.
Michigan (5-7, 3-5)
No quarterback. No wide receivers. No running backs. Rich Rodriguez's defense will need to pitch a shutout during every game if the Wolverines want to have a chance to win. The spread offense will sputter through the season because the personnel is severely lacking on offense.

Michigan State Rivals guru Jim Comparoni predicted a 2-10 or 3-9 season when he appeared on Jack Ebling's radio show in July.

Notre Dame blog, Rakes of Mallow, is a little more humble, but still sees many holes
The Wolverines will be learning a new system with a new quarterback, using untrustworthy and unproven running backs behind an offensive line that might make the 2007 Notre Dame unit look good (ha, just kidding!).

Yes, this could be a fun season. Nothing like dissappointing your rivals' fervent wishes for your destruction.
